2. What is a typical Smart Group Training (SGT) session?

Personal Improvement Time (10-15 min) Come early to work on mobility, soft tissue work, practice.

*those who take advantage of this (Personal Improvement Time) typically make the most progress!

Pre-Workout Routine (5 min) Warm-up directed by coach for the whole group

Main Training Session (25-30 min) Strength and conditioning at your own level

Post-Workout Routine (5-8 min) Soft tissue, breathing, recovery techniques.

Each part of your warm-up and main training session will have individualization based on your movement level (as determined by FMS Screen and coaches expertise), fitness level (ability to perform exercises with high quality and appropriate recovery), and how you’re feeling that day (self-analyzation).

3. When can I start? How do I register?

You must attend a group Program Orientation before starting. This happens only once every 5 weeks and you’ll get a FREE Functional Movement Screen (FMS) and go over any questions you may have. You must start at the beginning of a training phase (every 5 weeks of the year) for safest and most effective results. You can learn more about our next Program Orientation and how to register by clicking HERE.

4. Do I have to be “in shape” or injury-free to join Fukumoto Fitness?

Not at all. No participant will be left behind or asked to complete more than they are capable of doing safely. We specialize in exercise modifications so that a beginner or advanced member can workout within their fitness level. After your orientation, we will have a clear idea which of our programs is right for you or if Fukumoto Fitness is a good starting place for you at all. Any pain or issues that are not being addressed properly will be referred to our trusted therapists/physicians for further analysis so we can keep you safe as possible. One of the biggest misconceptions is that you need to ‘get in shape first’ before joining our program. Although there may be a few exceptions, we encourage you to come to our free orientation so we can give you our professional opinion on that topic.

5. How soon will I see results?

Your results will vary based on YOUR COMMITMENT to your training and nutrition program. You can feel and see differences in even 1 week but the process is ongoing. “Results” are more than just ‘losing weight’ and you will also experience:

-increased functional strength, flexibility, endurance, more energy, better sleep, better posture, better mood, increase self-confidence, pride in setting a good example for others…the list is long and diverse.

6. How much is a membership?

We have packages for 3, 6, and 12-month agreements for SGT. This will vary depending on how long you commit and how many times a week. In short, the longer you commit to your changes, the less you pay. First, enjoy your FREE Jump Start experience before making that decision. VISA, VISA Debit, and MasterCard are the only accepted forms of payment.

10. What do I wear to training?

Wear comfortable, soft, breathable materials.

Wear cross-training shoes like New Balance Minimus (or any other major brand of shoe like Nike, Reebok etc). with soles that are low to the ground (shoes that are for running are not going to be a good fit for this type of training). If your foot doctor suggests differently please follow their advice. We recommend you visiting Erik and friends at City Park Runners on Portage Ave. to find out the right choice for you.

11. What if I can’t make it to training?

We use an app called Mindbody Online (also usable on desktop) that you can access our facility schedule and sign yourself out and in when life happens! Members also have access to many home workouts over the course of the year. Memberships also come with easy-to-follow workouts you can complete at home on “off” days, during Recovery Training Week,” or when away for work/travel. sions if something unexpected comes up in your life!

12. Will I experience muscle soreness?

Yes, most likely. The initial phase of adding resistance training to your exercise program will likely cause some muscle soreness. And because we change our training programs every 4-6 weeks to keep your body from adapting, you may experience new muscle soreness each time. To help with muscle soreness, we provide Self-Myofascial Release (SMR) and Corrective Stretching Strategies before (and after) every session as well as nutritional guidelines to help your body recover from intense workouts. That being said, if you’re not sore its not a bad thing (it doesn’t have to hurt to be good) so make sure you communicate with your coach on how you’re feeling if unsure.

15. Do you have showers?

No. Our facility is a great open warehouse space. That being said, it does NOT have frills like showers, saunas, changerooms with TVs. Come dressed in your workout clothes if possible and get ready to bring it! We do have very nice bathroom facilities.

16. Can I bring my child?

The short answer is no (if a child is under 12 years of age). We have an official Fukumoto Fitness Kids Policy based on what the law requires that we are happy to send you. It centers around legal liability, safety, distraction for both parents and staff, among other things.

17. If I’m pregnant, can I join? How soon after pregnancy can I join?

You will need to be cleared from your doctor (Par-med X for Pregnancy Form) to indicate it is safe to participate. If you are already used to a regular fitness routine, there is ample research and recommendation to keep it up during your pregnancy while listening to your body. Every case will be different so you need to speak with your doctor.
